What’s Happening at Trinity—Jan. 1, 2023

E3 RETURNS NEXT WEEK—E3, our Wednesday evening gathering and activities for all ages, resumes Jan. 11 at 6 p.m. Free pizza is served at 6 p.m. followed by the meet ups at 6:30 p.m. If you’ve never attended before, come start the 2023 with this weekly family-friendly evening. Classes include:

  • Ephesians with Pastor Ken
  • We Three Kings with Pastor Gary
  • Senior High Youth Group in the Youth Lounge
  • Middle School Youth Group in the school foyer
  • Preteens (Grades/45) in Meeting Room 2.
  • Preschool through Grade 3 in the Church Lounge
  • Infants-preschool in the Church Nursery

CHURCH OFFICE CLOSED—The Church Office will be closed Monday Jan. 2. If you are in need of pastoral support, call the Church Office at 586-463-2921 and leave a message on the emergency line. Someone will call you back as soon as possible.

SAVE THE DATE FOR FIRST BIBLE-If you are the parent of a first grade, or other elementary school student who hasn’t participated in the First Bible Stepping Stone, a new session is planned for January. Join Miss Elizabeth on Jan. 23 and Jan. 30 at 6 p.m. in the Community Center. These meetings are for parents and kids. Come learn about the Bible and what you can do at home to encourage your child’s faith development. Bible presentation is Sunday, Feb. 5 at 11 a.m. Register at Trinityct.org/firstbible.

BAPTISM CLASSES—If you are interested in baptism at Trinity, Pastor Jeremy has scheduled several virtual baptism class—Jan. 23, Feb. 28, May 2, June 19, Aug. 7 all at 6:30 p.m. We talk about what baptism is, how we do it, why we do it, our role, your role and how this all plays out in the “real life” of your home. YOUTH MEETINGS—Trinity’s middle and high school youth groups will continue to meet throughout Advent. While E3 is paused, our youth are welcome to come Wednesdays at 6 p.m. to the Youth Lounge for their meetings.

CHILDREN’S CHURCH VOLUNTEERS NEEDED—Children’s Church occurs during the 11 a.m. worship services. Children’s Church is for kids ages 4-8 to hear a message that connects with them, while still keeping families together for worship. Two adult volunteers are needed each week to assist with classroom management and activities. If you are interested in helping, go to

WEEKDAY BIBLE STUDIES AND CLASSES
LADIES MONDAY NIGHT BIBLE STUDY—The Ladies Monday night Bible study continues “ after the New Year. This group meets Mondays at 7 p.m. in the Youth Lounge. If you have questions or concerns, contact Bonnie Young by text or cell 586-350-3222.

TUESDAY MORNING BIBLE STUDY-- Meet to enjoy God's Word every Tuesday morning 9:30-10:45 a.m. Led by Mary Hartman and Lila Tirsell. Meets in the Church Lounge. This class is on a break this week, but will resume Jan. 3.

WEDNESDAY MEN’S BIBLE STUDY meets Wednesday at 6 a.m. in the Church Lounge. Study guide provided. Bring your own breakfast/beverage. Pat Anderson leads the group. To join by Zoom, email The group will not meet the week between Christmas and New Years.

SATURDAY MORNING MEN’S STUDY —A Saturday morning men’s Bible study meets in the Church Lounge at Trinity at 8 a.m. Currently, the group is studying the book of Colossians. For more information, contact Brian Lanko at .This group is on a break until after the New Year.

BLOOD PRESSURE CHECKS NEXT SUNDAY—If you would like to have your blood pressure checked, our health ministry team is available NEXT SUNDAY, Jan. 8 between services to take your readings. From 10-11 a.m., nurses are available in the Church Lounge. The blood pressure checks are available on the second Sunday of each month. For more information, contact Lisa Riviera at

PAPER HUGS MEETS JAN. 5—The next meeting of Paper Hugs is Thursday, Jan. 5 from 1:30-8 p.m. in the Church Lounge. Come when you can and leave when you must. No experience necessary. Bring a snack! For more information, call the Church Office at 586-463-2921.

MEL OTT BASEBALL PROGRAM—This year, Trinity will participate in the Mel-Ott Baseball League, playing against other Lutheran churches and schools in the area. This is a brand new program for Trinity and a minimum of 10 players is needed per team. The program is open to boys and girls who are school students or church members. There is t-ball for kindergarten and first graders, machine pitch for second and third grade, and kid pitch from fourth-sixth grade. The season runs early April through the end of the school year. Cost is approximately $175 per child, including a uniform. If your child is interested, or you are interested in coaching/assistant coaching, email

GROUNDWORK GUATEMALA—Many thanks to everyone, who has been bringing their cans and bottles to support Groundwork Guatemala. The boxes for can and bottle donations are located outside the Youth Lounge.

HOPE FOR HAITI—Several Trinity members are going to Haiti Jan. 17-25! They need to take along some supplies and maybe you can help. Beginning Sunday, Jan. 1- Sunday, Jan. 8, The Hope for Haiti team is collecting deodorant, eye drops, antibiotic ointment, toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap, protein bars, Tums, vitamins *adults and children), Pepto Bismol and Band-Aids. Buckets will be available on those dates to collect items!!! (We will be packing on Jan. 8 in the afternoon) Thank you so much for helping our brothers and sisters in Christ in Haiti! YEAR END GIVING—As we approach the end of the 2022 year gift giving, this is the time many of the congregation evaluate their ability to make special donations of stock or cash gifting. If you are 70 ½ or older you can give from your IRAs Tax-Free to the charities of your choice. You don’t have to wait for the end of the year, but this option is available throughout the year. Contact your financial advisor to find out if this would be a good option for you. When considering giving from IRAs consider if any of the following apply to you:

  • You would like to give all of a portion of your REQUIRED MINIMUM DISTRIBUTION (RMD) to a charity income tax-free
  • You want to give a charitable gift using your IRA tax-free.
  • The withdrawals from your IRAs are forcing you to pay more tax on your Social Security payments
