Disconnecting for Lent? Stay plugged in with us!

February 20, 2023

There is a tradition in Michigan that dates back to the 18th century and is still popular during Lent--eating muskrats. According to Time.com, the tradition began when Catholics, who were abstaining from meat during Lent, were allowed to eat muskrats as a meat substitute since food options in the area were limited during the winters. The small, water-dwelling rodent is still eaten by people during Lent today.  However, there are other options for those who want to sacrifice something during the time of Lent. Many give up sweets or alcohol, but a large number of people are giving up social media. While we hate to see you take a 40-day break from connecting with us in that format, we want to make sure you can still plug in to Trinity.

If you plan to cut the cord to Facebook or Instagram this Lent, here are some options for continuing to engage with Trinity until Easter.

You are already on our website--that's a great way to see what's going on. Our calendar is updated reguarly, we have articles about activities and we populate a photo gallery with other things happening in the church and school.

While you're on the website, sign up to receive Crosstalk, our weekday audio devotion available through Lent, to your email. You can also listen in direct from the website, or subscribe via iTunes or Google. The instructions are on our Crosstalk webpage.

The church Announcer, our weekly newsletter, can also be found on the website. However, if you'd rather have it delivered to you, you can sign up to get it delivered to your email each Friday at 3 p.m., you can sign up for that as well. If you are in church on Saturdays or Sundays or pass through the building during the week, you can pick up a hard copy at the Welcome Center.

Finally, you can text us. That's right, you can pick up your phone and send us a message. We have a number available for Lent. This number can receive texts, however, please don't use it for pastoral emergencies as it's not monitored by a pastor. At this time, the number will only be available for Lent. You can text us at 586-330-9595.

Sign up below to tell us how we can best communicate with you during Lent if you are giving up social media.
