ECC students bring dads to school

April 03, 2023

The Early Childhood Center gave its students and dads the opportunity to get one-on-one time with a Dads Night. The traditional and full-day 3 and 4 year old students and the Great Start Readiness students each had an evening to bring their dads to Trinity for dinner, time to play in the gym and storytime, all put together by the Early Childhood Center staff.

The students and their dads started the evening with a picnic dinner of hot dogs and chips on blankets in the gym. Once they wrapped up dinner, the ECC staff put out all different types of gym toys. Hoola hoops, basketballs and bowling kits were distributed around the gym. The dads and the kids had the opportunity to play together before they settled down for the evening with a story read by the ECC teachers.

A Pew Research study found that dads often feel they aren't doing enough for their children. In 2017, the survey sowed that 63 percent of dads felt they spent too little time with their children, citing work obligations as a large barrier. Activities like Dads Night give dads a chance to spend time with their children, one-on-one, without the other demands that come from within the household. It's also a chance for the preschool dads to get to know each other and the children in class with their sons and daughters.
