Grandparents and guests join preschoolers for tea

November 11, 2025

The Community Center was filled with grandparents and special friends spending an evening with Trinity four-year-old preschoolers for the Grandparent Tea. While the tea was actually apple juice, everyone enjoyed frosting cookies, checking out the classrooms and listening to a story before heading home for the night.

The four-year-old preschool classes, including full-day, traditional preschool and the two Great Start Readiness Program classrooms invited their grandparents or special friends for an evening of fun at Trinity. The preschoolers and their parents gathered in the Community Center to frost cookies and share juice and water with their grandparents. Using tiny tea cups and the family-style pitchers used in the classrooms at meal and snack times, the kids served themselves and their guests while getting several reminders not to lick the decorating spoon before sticking it in the frosting cup.

After the snack, the preschool students took their guests to the classrooms. The guests got to play with the students, see projects they have worked on, color or draw and explore the space the preschoolers visit for class. Then, as time was coming to a close, the students' teachers picked out special books to read to the class and their guests.

"This was an opportunity not only for our preschoolers to bring their grandparents out for a fun evening, but also for the grandparents and friends to meet the staff, each other and their preschoolers' friends. They could see our classrooms and the learning environment we strive to keep for the kids. They can see what makes each classroom special and a fun place to learn," said ECC Director Jessica Platte. "Plus, we get to meet the special people in the preschoolers' lives as well. The Early Childhood Center is a family, so we like to get to meet the extended parts of the family."
