Jews for Jesus presents Seder meal to Trinity students

March 28, 2023

As we approach Passover, Trinity students had a first-hand look at what makes up the Seder meal. Greg Williams with Jews for Jesus visited Trinity on Monday, March 27 and walked the students through Passover and the meaning of each Seder meal element. He shared stories and traditions and helped the students have their own Seder meal together.

Students  filled the Community Center and sat at tables with their chapel families. After learning a bit about Passover, they were able to participate in Seder meal. The students had four small cups of grape juice instead of the wine, which represents redemption. For the Karpas, they dipped parsley into saltwater, which represented the Isaeralites slavery and the tears that were shed. During the Yachatz portion of the mean, the matzo was broken, placed in a bag and hidden in the room. During the Maggid, and the second glass of grape juice, they learned about the four questions that are asked, which ask, "How is this night different from all other nights?" It's a part of the night where the participants and discuss what they believe. The students then tasted an onion and then bitter herbs, which was horseradish, which represents the bitterness of slavery. The Charoset, or the paste made of apples, walnuts and honey, was shared among the tables. Then, Williams discussed the lamb shank and why the bone is present at the meal. They also tasted a hard boiled egg as part of the meal.

The students talked about the Hallel, or Psalms of praise that are sung as the final glass of wine is consumed. Remember the hidden, broken matzo? The kindergarten students scoured the room until they located it. The students then tried a piece of the unleven bread.

Williams also introduced them to the Jews for Jesus organization and explained his work in Israel. He works with children and young adults as well as soldier in the country, spreading the message of the gospel. He said it's a tricky situation as the New Testament is banned in Israel and those under 18 who wish to learn the gospel must have parent permission.
