Walkathon nets nearly $30,000

May 26, 2023

Friday, May 26 was a great day for a Walkathon! Students in kindergarten through eighth grade walked 20 laps around the school parking lot to raise money for various campus improvements. Their hard work paid off. The students raised $29,934!

This year, the walkathon money goes towards the following projects:

  • Annual addition of new books to the school library – We continue to keep our collection current and offer a wide variety of books from which the children can choose.
  • Continued funding of the field project. There has been a 20% increase in building supplies and work, as well as new additions to the field project that will put the cost of this project close to
    $150,000!
  • Indoor recess games and equipment. For those rainy days, we would like to have good supply of fun indoor activities for students to play together!
  • Begin the process of replacing classroom doors and hardware – As part of our continued efforts to provide a safe and secure environment, we have started the bidding process to remove and replace outdated classroom doors and hardware with ones that will be more secure. We have received some funding through a Michigan State Police grant but will need additional funding to keep the project going.
  • Coverings for windows in the gym – On clear days, the sun shines through the southern windows of the gym and makes it difficult for referees and players to see during games and practices. We are looking into shades, window film, or exterior awnings to help with that issue.

Once the students completed the walk, they joined together in the gym for fun and games with the staff and parents. While the students dominated the game, the parents and teachers seemed to have a great time.

Of all the classrooms, the 7th grade earned the most money and first grader Otto was the top earner in the school.
