Trinity at National Youth Gathering

On July 8, 2022, 37 Trinity youth and adult leaders travel to Houston, Texas for the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod National Youth Gathering.

The gathering gives our youth the opportunity to join together with others their age as a community of God's people. They worship together, serve together and encourage each other in their faith walk. They will spend five days learning more about the Christian faith, their Lutheran identity and themselves. Our youth and adult leaders have been preparing for nearly 10 months, with monthly meetings, Bible stories and committees designed to bring them together and take ownership of the trip.

We've provided this page as a way for you to check in on the youth throughout their journey to Texas and back. It's a way for you to see how your support matters. Whether you are a parent of a student attending, someone who donated to one of the fundraisers or a church member praying for them. Follow along for pictures from our group, as well as conference livestreams and more.

July 8

Today our students and adult leaders were up before dawn to get to the airport and make their first flight to Midway in Chicago. They dashed to the next gate to board the connection to Houston. They arrived at the hotel, had lunch in the mall area and got ready to head to Typhoon Texas, a water park that was the perfect way to beat the Texas heat. On their way back to the hotel, the group members made a stop at Buc-ees! Have you ever been to a Buc-ees? Let us know on our social media channels!

NYG-Day 1

July 9

Today, the Gathering kicked off with the first event, a mass gathering at Minute Maid Park in the evening. There was plenty of music, lots of encouraging words and even a fireworks display. Before heading to the Gathering, the team had a barbecue-style lunch and some time to research which sectionals they hope to attend this week.

NYG-Day 2

Here are some videos taken during the mass event as well.

July 10

This has been one full day for our Youth Gathering travelers! Today they began the day with Bible study, followed by sectionals-which are basically sessions they select based on interest. These sectionals include educational information on topics teens face today. Everything from anxiety, decision-making and their identity in Christ. They also spent some time with other Michigan District students participating in games and activities. They also had time to explore the sponsor booths and interactive activities before heading over to the mass gathering after dinner. (We add pictures as we get them. Check back from time-to-time to make sure you've seen them all!)

NYG-Day 3

Here are some videos that came from our group as well.

July 11

Monday was a busy day and we got plenty of pictures as the students and volunteers participated in their service project at the Neighborhood Resource Center just outside of Houston. The organization is fighting poverty in the community. The Trinity team tackled painting, both inside and out. After the finished, the did more sectionals before heading to the mass event.

NYG - Day 4

Videos from Today

July 12

The Youth Gathering team had their last full day in Houston. They started with sectionals and Bible study before getting in the last few minutes of play on the interactive floor. The final mass event was a culmination of the week and looking ahead to how they can take the information home with them. Oh, but before that all started, Mrs. Hardy participated in a Boomer Dance off. See the videos below!
