What’s Happening at Trinity—July 21, 2024

OUTDOOR WORSHIP—Summer is here, which means the return of outdoor worship! On the last Sunday of the summer months, (July 28 and Aug. 25) our 11 a.m. worship services will be held outside, weather permitting. Join us on the lawn, just off Farmcrest as we praise God outside. Bring your lawn chairs or blankets!

BAPTISM CLASSES SCHEDULED—If you are interested in baptism at Trinity, Pastor Jeremy has several upcoming virtual baptism classes—Aug. 13, Sept. 23, Nov. 12 at 6:30 p.m. We talk about what baptism is, how we do it, why we do it, our role, your role and how this all plays out in the “real life” of your home. WELLSPRING COOKIE SALE—At the next outdoor service on July 28 at 11 a.m., we have the opportunity to help Wellspring by purchasing cookies at the group’s cookie sale! Wellspring is the largest Lutheran service organization in the state. Local Chapter 6 raises money to help New Directions Home send kids to summer camp and supports Camp Hope, which is a camp for grieving children. The organization also helps with baby supplies for the Luke Clinic in Detroit and Flint. For more information on Wellspring or to get involved, contact Jane Davis at

LIFE WITH JESUS CLASS FORMING FOR FALL—Whether you are interested in exploring membership at Trinity or want to learn more about Christianity, this 10-week class is for you. We will explore Christ’s gracious invitation of a personal relationship with God and the Spirit-filled life of following Christ as his disciple. Life with Jesus is for anyone who would like to attend, and is required of those considering membership at Trinity (but does not obligate you to become a member). This session of Life with Jesus is led by Pastor Gary. Life with Jesus is scheduled for Thursdays beginning Sept. 19 in the Church Lounge. The staffed nursery is available for those who need it. DANIEL G. EVOLA MEMORIAL GOLF EVENT—The family of Daniel Evola, late husband of Trinity's K-4 Spanish teacher, Julia Evola and father to Emmy (1st) and Lily (Pre-K 3) invite you to participate in their 2nd annual Daniel G. Evola Memorial Foundation Golf Tournament. The tournament is Saturday, Sept. 7 at Oak Ridge Golf Course. Proceeds from the tournament will be donated to Trinity Lutheran School, The Macomb ISD Education Project for Homeless Children & Youth, and an education fund for Emmy and Lily. SUPPORT LUTHERAN SPECIAL ED—Lutheran Special Education Ministries (LSEM) is having its 19th Annual Golf Outing on Monday, Sept. 16 and you’re invited! Play a round of golf and raise funds for children who have learning needs in Christian schools here in southwest Michigan and across the country. Golf, cart, breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included in your ticket price. There will be plenty of fun games to play as we fundraise for these kids. Register your team today or sponsor the event. BLOOD DRIVE SEPT. 5—Trinity hosts an American Red Cross blood drive on Thursday, Sept. 5 from 1-7 p.m. in the Community Center. Trinity’s drives have been vital to the Red Cross. To sign up, go to RedCrossBlood.org and use code TrinityCT.

FAMILY OF GOD DINNERS-Trinity provides meals/casseroles for Family of God in Detroit once a month. Volunteers are needed to donate a dish. If you’d like to contribute financially, leave a donation in the Church Office or Venmo Cathy Essig (@CLEssig). To schedule a dish donation, call Karen Langreet at 586-445-2460.

MEIJER SIMPLY GIVE EXTENDED—The Simply Give campaign benefitting Trinity has been extended until Sept. 24. The Simply Give program is truly simple. Pick up one of the Simply Give cards in the register lanes at the Meijer on Groesbeck. Scan them when you pay. They can be purchased in $10 increments. For every card purchased, Meijer donates an additional $10, meaning your $10 earns Trinity $20. We have two double match days-Saturday, Aug. 17 and Saturday, Sept. 14. For every $10 Simply Give card purchased, Meijer contributes $20, bringing the total to $30 for Trinity’s food pantry. At the end of the campaign, Trinity receives the total donation in the form of gift cards to purchase food and other eligible items. DO YOU HAVE A PRESCHOOL PLAN FOR YOUR CHILD THIS FALL? Trinity has several options! The Early Childhood Center is enrolling for the traditional half-day three and four-year-old preschool program and in the FREE Great Start Readiness Program for this fall. GSRP is an extended day routine Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. from September through May. Free Jesus Time offered Monday through Friday from 3:05-3:20 p.m. Child care available Monday through Thursday until 6 p.m. Children must be 4 years old by Dec. 1, 2024 to register. TRINITY UTICA MOVIE NIGHTS—Trinity Utica hosts free Wednesday night movie nights. A light meal is served at 6:15 p.m. and the movies begin at 7 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. Upcoming movies:

  • July 24—I Hear the Bells—With a nation divided by the Civil War and his family torn apart, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow puts down his pen, until the sounds of Christmas reignite his lost voice and rekindled faith.
  • July 31—MindReader—The year is 1974 and The Great Dexter is the closing act in a variety show at The Temple Theatre. His amazing mindreading act fools everyone, including the local magicians’ association. As Dexter’s popularity grows, so does the association’s jealousy as they try to shut his act down and figure out how it’s done.
  • Aug. 7—Always a Winner—Emily Hilton transfers to a new Christian high school determined to repeat as state golf champion. As she begins that quest, she is greatly affected by her new golf coach and teammates and comes to learn what is really most important in life.
