What’s Happening at Trinity—July 28, 2024

ANNUAL MEETING—Trinity’s Annual Meeting will be held Tuesday, Aug. 20 at 7 p.m. in the Community Center. Members will receive information on voting topics and the proposed budget before the meeting. Watch your email and mailbox for those details. There is no plan to livestream the meeting.

BLOOD DRIVE SEPT. 5—Trinity hosts an American Red Cross blood drive on Thursday, Sept. 5 from 1-7 p.m. in the Community Center. To sign up, go to RedCrossBlood.org and use code TrinityCT.

LIFE WITH JESUS CLASS FORMING FOR FALL—Life with Jesus is for anyone who would like to attend, and is required of those considering membership at Trinity (but does not obligate you to become a member). This session of Life with Jesus is led by Pastor Gary. Life with Jesus is scheduled for Thursdays beginning Sept. 19 in the Church Lounge. The staffed nursery is available for those who need it. MEIJER SIMPLY GIVE EXTENDED—The Simply Give campaign benefitting Trinity has been extended until Sept. 24. Pick up one of the Simply Give cards at the register at the Meijer on Groesbeck. Scan them when you pay. They can be purchased in $10 increments. For every card purchased, Meijer donates an additional $10, meaning your $10 earns Trinity $20. We have two double match days-Saturday, Aug. 17 and Saturday, Sept. 14. For every $10 card purchased, Meijer contributes $20, bringing the total to $30 for Trinity’s food pantry. At the end of the campaign, Trinity receives the total donation in the form of gift cards to purchase food and other eligible items. BAPTISM CLASSES SCHEDULED—If you are interested in baptism at Trinity, Pastor Jeremy has several upcoming virtual baptism classes—Aug. 13, Sept. 23, Nov. 12 at 6:30 p.m. We talk about what baptism is, how we do it, why we do it, our role, your role and how this all plays out in the “real life” of your home. COMING SOON—This fall, Trinity embarks on the Red Letter Challenge. We will spend 40 days in the gospels beginning to the sermon the weekend of Sept. 14/15 and run through mid-October. The Red Letter Challenge carries over into our E3 Wednesday evening meetings, which returns Sept. 18. More details soon.

PARENTS OF RISING 6th GRADERS—You begin the process of confirmation in the fall. You should have received information about the confirmation process at Trinity and how to register for modules. A meeting is scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 25 at 10:15 a.m. in the Youth Lounge to get you started. This program is set up in a series of modules you and your student attend over the course of three years before confirmation.

DANIEL G. EVOLA MEMORIAL GOLF EVENT—The family of Daniel Evola, late husband of Trinity's K-4 Spanish teacher, Julia Evola and father to Emmy (1st) and Lily (Pre-K 3) invite you to participate in their 2nd annual Daniel G. Evola Memorial Foundation Golf Tournament. The tournament is Saturday, Sept. 7 at Oak Ridge Golf Course. Proceeds from the tournament will be donated to Trinity Lutheran School, The Macomb ISD Education Project for Homeless Children & Youth, and an education fund for Emmy and Lily. SUPPORT LUTHERAN SPECIAL ED—Lutheran Special Education Ministries (LSEM) is having its 19th Annual Golf Outing on Monday, Sept. 16. FAMILY OF GOD DINNERS-Trinity provides meals/casseroles for Family of God in Detroit once a month. Volunteers are needed to donate a dish. HELP CAMP RESTORE DETROIT— Camp Restore Detroit would love YOUR help leading this summer! Volunteers help with things like checking groups in and out, taking pictures, attend BBQs, transitioning and cleaning between groups, and assist at the third Sat urday service. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR UPCOMING CONCERTS—Christian recording artists Phil Wickham and Brandon Lake along with Forrest Frank are bringing their tours to Detroit this August. SCHOOL YEAR STARTS AUG. 26—To prepare for the upcoming school year, Trinity’s school hosts Registration and Curriculum night on Thursday, Aug. 22 from 4:30-8:30 p.m. Registration takes place in the Community Center and will break for curriculum information in the sanctuary with meetings in the classrooms to follow. The school year begins Monday, Aug. 26 at 8 a.m. Opening chapel starts at 8:30 a.m. in the sanctuary.

PRESCHOOL OPENINGS-- Trinity's Early Childhood Center has openings in the traditional half-day three and four-year-old preschool program and in the FREE Great Start Readiness Program for this fall. PRE-RELEASE SHOWING OF THE FORGE—Trinity Utica sponsors a private showing of the new Kendrick Brothers movie The Forge. The movie centers on a boy, a year out of high school with no plans for his future, who is challenged by his single mom and a successful businessman to start charting a better course for his life. Through the prayers of his mother and biblical discipleship from his new mentor, he begins discovering God's purpose for his life is than he could hope for or imagine.
