Trinity second and third graders took a step back in history when they visited the Troy Historic Village on Friday, Sept. 25. The village brings history to life with buildings to tour, activities to experience and other educational encounters to help the students connect to the past. 

Field trips at the Troy Historic Village are led by the village staff members and are designed to appeal to student interest as well as enhance classroom education the students get in school. 

On the grounds of the Historic Village, students experienced Pioneer life and learned about Michigan pioneers from the 1800s. They explored cabins the pioneers may have lived in, saw their food, chores, sleeping arrangements and transportation. They even have the opportunity to make butter, which involves a lot of shaking. Students visited the one-room school house, with historical lessons and even learned about the discipline of the time. While visiting the different buildings in the village, students visited a store with old time toys, where they compare and contrast the historical toys with those of modern day. 

The students learned about tinsmiths and the role they played in the 19h century. They also made a tin punch craft to take home. 

To enhance the experience, some Trinity students even dressed like pioneers for the day. It made for a complete day of living and exploring local history.
