Advent Week 1 - The Promise of His Coming

Hope in the Waiting

December 01, 2025

There is so much anticipation this time of year! Seeing family we don't regularly get to interact with, lights and decorations abound beckoning us to festive parties and gatherings, and of course all of the food we only get at special times of the year. For many, it leads up to Christmas morning celebrations and stretches into the new year. We try to eek out every thing we can from the Christmas season. And for good reason. There is so much to celebrate!

This first week of Advent, we look at several readings from the Old Testament--years and year before Jesus' birth--where God promises to send a Savior. While we have to wait 365 day to celebrate Christmas each year, the first promise came in Genesis and was reiterated throughout the Old Testament. He's coming! Just wait! He will save you! This is a fair and just King coming to reign over all the Earth. That was a long time to wait, but the hope of what was to come was too great. The people waited, not always patiently, for Christmas morning. And it was worth it.

If you've picked up an Advent resources book, "The King is Coming," from the church or you downloaded it from this page, use the sermon notes page to jot down notes from church this week. If you missed it, or would like to watch to the service or sermon again, that is available on our Past Services page.

Listen to this week's Crosstalk audio devotions and use the space provided on the page in the book to write down anything that strikes you about the messages.

There are also several activities for the week. If you were in church on Sunday and picked up the family activity kit, work on the craft to create your prayer journal. Start your prayer calendar in the book. Tune into the hymn linked in the book. Also, engage with us on our special Facebook group. We'd love to hear about how this resource book is impacting your Advent season.
