A small corner outside of Trinity's building received a beautiful update, one that pays tribute to late longtime staff member Walt Bul.
When Nicholas McParland, a member of Trinity's Boy Scout Troop 157 and Trinity alumnus, began looking for an Eagle Scout project last year, he wanted something that would impact the Trinity community. The Boy Scout Troop has met at Trinity for decades, using the Community Center as a home base for regular meetings and hosting special events throughout the year. McParland wanted his project to benefit the place he's called home for church, school and Boy Scouts. He also wanted to do something that honored Walt Bul, who served as an unofficial liaison between the Boy Scout Troop and Trinity.
He approached his dad, Shawn McParland, a local contractor and Trinity member, about a patio area and Shawn McParland knew just the place that could use the upgrade. He suggested the area outside door 29 as the spot for the project. Shawn McParland explained that due to the building design, the area was often wet from roof runoff, making it difficult to mow and created a haven for mosquitoes.
To complete the project, Nicholas McParland's plans included paver stones, a trellis with flowers and decorations and a handmade bench with a dedication plaque to Walt Bul.
This is just one of several Eagle Scout projects that have been completed by Troop 157 members on the Trinity property. Another recent addition was the garage located at the back of the parking lot. The Troop regularly tries to give back to the Trinity community, said Shawn McParland, in exchange for the home the building provides for the Troop.
This patio and bench project was extra special because because it honors the legacy of Walt Bul.
