Trinity’s kindergarten students took their learning beyond the classroom with a trip to Westview Orchards in Romeo for a day filled with apples, animals and plenty of fun. Once they were back in the classroom, they used the apples to make applesauce, completed an apple craft and met with their 8th grade chapel buddies to do some apple counting. All of the apple fun helped the kindergarteners get ready for fall. 

During their visit, students took a tractor ride into the orchard to pick their own apples, learning firsthand where one of their favorite fall fruits comes from. The kindergarteners also visited animals at the petting farm and had plenty of time to explore and play on the playground, including climbing a giant haybale pyramid!

When the field trip ended, the apples came back to Trinity with them and became part of the classroom education for the rest of the week.

The next day, students put their freshly picked apples to good use by making homemade applesauce. The activity gave them a chance to follow steps, observe how the apples changed during the process and, of course, enjoy the results. Students also completed an apple-themed project, adding creativity and art to their week.

On Thursday, the kindergarteners teamed up with some special helpers: their eighth-grade chapel buddies. Together, the students completed an apple counting activity, giving the younger students a chance to practice their math skills while spending time with the older students they have gotten to know through Trinity’s chapel buddy program.

From science and math to art, practical life skills and relationship building, one simple theme connected an entire week of learning. Experiences like these give Trinity students opportunities to see that learning doesn’t happen only at a desk. Sometimes it happens in an orchard, in the kitchen, alongside an older studen, and sometimes with a freshly picked apple in hand.
