Trinity quilts distributed around the world

November 05, 2025

Once a month, Trinity Quilters meet in the Community Center to assemble a quilt top with squares sewn by volunteers. The quilts are stored for a year and combined with those from other churches in the area to be shipped around the world to those in need as part of the Lutheran World Relief program.

LWR began distributing quilts in 1945 to families in Europe following the Second World War--making 2025 the 80th anniversary of the organization's work. The mission grew and now, an average of 300,000 quilts are donated worldwide each year. The quilts from LWR adhere to quilt-making guidelines than ensure each one is unseful, consistent and fair.

Churches participating in the program make quilts all year. They are then packed and sealed from each church and then sent the LWR's distribution warehouses and spread around the world. When Trinity's quilts were packed and labeled, two of Trinity's dedicated quilters Joann Albright and Lynda Gustke, joined Parish Nurse Lisa Riviera to pray over the boxes of quilts making there way from Trinity to around the world.

To get involved with Trinity Quilters, see the display in the Commons. There is information about LWR and squares that can be sewn together and brought back to the quilters. Meetings are held on the third Tuesday of each month in the Community Center at 9:30 a.m. No experience of sewing involved.
