Trinity first graders were recognized in church in early February. The congregation prayed over them and their families as they received their first Bibles. It's all part of Trinity's First Bible Stepping Stone, one of several that students participate in through their faith walk.
The First Bible Stepping Stone focuses on teaching parents and students who to how and read a Bible. Through two meetings, the parents and children get a hands-on lesson on how to get around the Bible and how the Bible is used to help grow faith. Elizabeth Szwarc, campus director of children and family ministry, led the class and taught the families the important parts of the Bible and strategies for using it at home.
On Feb. 2, the parents presented the students with their own Bible. Many parents take the opportunity to write something meaningful, or include the date. The parents and the students gather around the altar to pray, prsent th Bible and even read the words they wrote for the students. The congregation also prays over the students and the parents as they embark on this portion of their faith walk.
